Century: Spice Road เป็นเกมแรกในซีรีส์ของการสำรวจประวัติศาสตร์ในแต่ละศตวรรษ โดยมีการแลกเปลี่ยนเครื่องเทศเป็นธีมสำหรับภาคแรก

ใน Century: Spice Road ผู้เล่นจะเป็นผู้นำกองคาราวานที่เดินทางบนเส้นทางสายไหมอันเลื่องชื่อเพื่อจัดส่งเครื่องเทศไปยังดินแดนอันไกลโพ้นเพื่อชื่อเสียงและเกียรติยศ ในแต่ละเทิร์น ผู้เล่นจะดำเนินการอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งจากสี่อย่าง:

- กำหนดเส้นทางการค้า (หยิบการ์ดจากตลาด)

- ทำการแลกเปลี่ยนหรือเก็บเกี่ยวเครื่องเทศ (เล่นการ์ดจากในมือ)

- ส่งเครื่องเทศ ณ แดนไกล (จ่ายเครื่องเทศตามข้อกำหนดของ Victory Point Card และรับการ์ดเก็บไว้เป็นคะแนน)

- พัก (นำการ์ดทั้งหมดที่เล่นไปแล้วกลับขึ้นมือ)

เกมเล่นต่อเนื่องไปเรื่อยๆจนมีผู้เล่นคนได้คนหนึ่งได้รับ Victory Point Card ใบที่ 5 จะเล่นรอบนั้นเป็นรอบสุดท้าย (ใบที่ 6 หากเล่น 2-3 คน) ผู้ที่มีคะแนนมากที่สุดเป็นผู้ชนะ
