Did you know that there are several ways to make decaf coffee beans? One of the most common ways uses a solvent (usually methylene chloride or ethyl acetate) which is a chemical and most likely not good for your body. At Seed of Hope Coffee we sell the "Swiss Water Process" decaf which is branded "fully natural". The Swiss Water method removes caffeine by soaking the green coffee beans in a water solution allowing them to reach their optimal moisture level to remove the caffeine. The beans are then soaked in a green coffee extract (GCE), which is patented, for up to 10 hour increments. While soaking in this extract the caffeine "leaks out" and attaches to the GCE allowing it to then be removed. This may be done several times and what is left is the amazing coffee bean with all its aromas and flavors and is now 99.9% caffeine free. We then roast it to perfection and get it to you chemical free!
